The Issue. The universal nature of CCTV cameras makes them a seemingly obligatory and expected measure within any security system.  However, as this University recognised, in a project to replace a number of existing cameras, that just changing old for new and potentially more cameras, might not actually meet their needs in providing a safe and secure place of learning.

Our Involvement. As a consultancy, independent, not only of any manufacturer or installer, but who sees cameras as part of an overall Integrated Security System Design, ISSD, RedLeaf Consultancy’s approach was not purely technical.  It was largely based on what the University delivered, whether that was taken as a safe environment for staff and students, the security of research laboratories, with the equipment and information they contained, as well as the critical infrastructure that was depended upon. 

From mapping this out against the potential threats that there were, understanding the functions and capacity for new work of the security teams, a report was drafted that set out a potential way ahead.

The Solution. This was a necessary first step, prior to the technical design of the CCTV system to ensure that it was integrated into the overall security regime, rather than taken as a standalone component of it.
