It’s Not Just a Binary Process
In a world of Corporate Governance, where there is clear accountability and responsibility, it is essential that the mechanisms, processes and relations essential for that governance are proven.
Security Audits are a method by which the details behind the formulation of a business’s Risk Management system, feeding into the compliance regime can be proven. Details taken from reporting systems, guards acting on instructions or staff complying with procedures are key indicators of an ongoing Risk assessment. Those details should be subject to a process which validates that and other information being presented.
Understanding the Organisation
Security Audits are a lot more than just verifying a process and have to be set within the context of an organisation. Security is as much dependent on organisational and reporting structures as it is on the output from a risk assessment. Policies and procedures are important, but so is the entire security process from risk identification through to delivery of a security product to those who need it. Auditing is not a superficial project, it requires detailed questioning, understanding of what it is that is trying to be delivered and if those expectations are being met. Security – It Doesn’t Always Work
Security Auditing can be seen as a binary process, with policies and procedures either being adhered to or not. While RedLeaf Consultancy would set this out in their report, it would also set out potential reasons why policies, procedures or any other factors within security that are preventing their use. It is not always the end users fault.
