The Foundation of Security
Security is not a siloed function, but an integral part of an organisation’s structure that can have a positive or negative impact on the risks that there are. In themselves those risks might not be owned by the security function, but by other departments as they manage their objectives, protect their assets and ensure their processes.
Security Risk Management is the structure around the security function, which enables the ongoing delivery of its product to an organisation. It is a product that is a reflection of the security challenges faced, but which allows the horizon to be scanned and assurance given to the customers it has.

To be effective, Security has to understand what an organisation does, where its activities take place, who its customers are, the objectives it has, as well as the enterprise wide risks that there are.
